Workshops Education Opportunities

Oakland Schools National Standards Workshop

Registration is open for Transforming Minds: Improving Learning Through the New National Standards for Arts Education, a wonderful, day-long professional development conference especially for K-12 fine arts educators, at Oakland Schools on Saturday, January 10, 2015.

Transforming Minds will feature National Standards’ developers and writers Dr. Scott Shuler and Dennis Inhulsen. Among the key questions that will be addressed:

  • How will new standards support teaching for understanding?
  • How can the three processes be used to increase engagement, independence and, ultimately, artistically literate citizenry?
  • How can teachers use the new standards to assess appropriate progress in the arts and communicate that information to their educational community?

Discipline-specific Art and Music breakout sessions will further focus on concrete application and assessment strategies. Connections to the Michigan State Standards & Benchmarks and Core Curriculum will be explored.

Register at www.oakland.k12.mi.us <http://www.oakland.k12.mi.us/>.

$45.00 includes lunch and all related materials.

Coffee and registration from 8:30-9:00; keynote and breakout sessions from 9:00-3:00. SCECHs pending.
