FROM THE HISTORIAN…..
In 1948, three Art teachers in the East Lansing area convened to discuss the pursuit of furthering Art Education in the State of Michigan. Their goal was to educate teachers and administrators on a better understanding of children’s art and the best educational procedures to help develop it. The three teachers, Lucie Anne McCall from Grand Rapids; Alma Goetsch, and Kathrine Winckler from Lansing, sent out letters to all Michigan art people interested in curriculum and invited them to an ART GATHERING in Spring 1949 at MSU.
Approximately 100 people from across the state met to organize the Michigan Art Education Association. The organization has stayed strong since and today boasts yearly State Conferences, devoted Board members, many volunteers and the best professional development opportunities for our members. Stayed tuned to this site for a list of the Past Conferences; Past Presidents; Past Teacher of the Year honorees and so much more. We have evolved to become a strong and supportive organization for Art Educators in Michigan.
